I ran across an interesting problem using Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo).
After an unexpected crash caused by an unrelated program, I was forced to reboot my computer.
After the reboot I could not get Eclipse to start. The splash screen was visible and then it would disappear.
Eclipse was not in the Task Manager.
It simply didn’t start.
Not very helpful.
I noticed that the splash screen seemed to go away while “Loading Workbench…” was visible.
Prior to this I had helped one of my co-workers with a similar problem.
We ended up removing his entire workbench profile and allowing Eclipse to recreate it.
He lost all his custom settings.
I decided to take a more measured approach this time and I started by removing:
{eclipse}\configuration\.settings\org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs
I allowed Eclipse to recreate the file.
Fixed my problem and kept most my settings (I had to re-select my default workspace).
Hope this helps someone.
